The Dutchess  Association of REALTORS® is deeply engaged in local advocacy efforts that protect property rights, support homeownership, and strengthen the communities where our members live and work.

From municipal policy discussions to community partnerships, DCAR works directly with local leaders to ensure real estate professionals — and the consumers they serve — have a seat at the table when housing decisions are made.

⭐ Local Advocacy First

DCAR actively monitors and engages on issues that impact the Dutchess County housing market, including:

  • Local zoning and land use proposals

  • Housing affordability initiatives

  • Property tax concerns

  • Building regulations and development policies

  • Municipal inspections and compliance issues

  • Infrastructure, growth, and community planning

We regularly meet with town, city, county, and regional officials to provide real estate insight and practical perspective on housing-related decisions.

Advocacy also means supporting the communities we serve. DCAR members:

🏛️ State Advocacy & REALTOR® Lobby Day

DCAR works closely with the New York State Association of REALTORS® (NYSAR) to advocate on statewide housing and real estate issues. One of the most impactful opportunities is REALTOR® Lobby Day in Albany, where members meet directly with legislators to discuss policies affecting homeowners, property rights, housing affordability, and the real estate profession.

Participating in Lobby Day allows REALTORS® to:

  • Share real-world market insight with lawmakers

  • Advocate for balanced housing policy

  • Build relationships with elected officials

  • Ensure the voice of homeownership is heard.

🌎 National Advocacy Support

Through our connection with the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), DCAR helps support federal advocacy efforts addressing:

  • Mortgage finance and lending policy

  • Tax issues affecting homeowners

  • Fair housing initiatives

  • Infrastructure and housing supply challenges

This partnership ensures local perspectives help shape national housing conversations.

💼 RPAC — Protecting the Future of Real Estate

The REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) supports candidates and policies that promote homeownership, private property rights, and a strong real estate economy.

RPAC participation helps ensure REALTORS® remain an informed, respected voice in government at all levels.
